    Labor History Calendar July

As we celebrate our nation's birthday, the National Park Service will proudly carry on the words of John Adams—"Bonfires and Illuminations from one End of this Continent to the other from this Time forward forevermore"—with a brilliant fireworks display. These illuminations will light up the sky of our nation’s capital to inspire and remind us how fortunate we are to have the freedom that has been entrusted to us all."

Good day, everyone. We have 22 days before the negotiated rates for the APWU 2025, PPA Conference. There is still room for more to join us, and here is a list of those who still should:

If your local or state leadership needs assistance to enhance their communication effectiveness with members, communities, and supporters, then you or someone from your union would benefit from attending this conference.

    Key topics include:

    - An Editor's Guide to Survival from A to Z for Editors and Leaders: Learn where to begin to improve communication efforts.

Legal Matters: Learn how to protect your union from potential legal issues and how to communicate about specific topics that could lead to legal trouble.

    - Newsletter Revamp: Discover ways to stimulate creative skills within your publication and website.

    - Using Canva: Get hands-on experience with the application Canva to design communication materials.

    - Introduction to Artificial Intelligence (AI): Explore AI in communication, ethical issues that may arise, and the safeguards needed for responsible use.

    - Writing and Editing: Gain insights into effective writing and editing strategies for union communications.

    - Influencing Public Support: Learn strategies to communicate your message and garner public support effectively.

    - Becoming an Effective Spokesperson: Develop skills to serve as a strong spokesperson as a labor leader or representative.

    - Utilizing Social Media and Websites: Understand how to use social media and websites effectively.

    - Mastering Microsoft Office: Learn to effectively use Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint in your communications, including creating documents, spreadsheets, charts, and presentations.

Building the Labor Movement: Enhance your organizing skills locally and within your state, and learn how to be more organized as leaders.

These workshops will help you strengthen your leadership capabilities and improve your union’s communication effectiveness.

It won't be all work. Enjoy horse racing, reception night, movie night, hospitality night, awards banquet, and installation of the PPA Officers.
